We've updated our meet the team pages as we have some lovely new team members come on board.

Firstly meet Dean! He is one of our tutors and loves finding new ways to make his favourite foods healthier!

Secondly it's a warm welcome back to Liz who returns after maternity leave.

You'll see both of them out and about running our courses and at events - give them a wave!

Unhealthy 'health' foods

Shopping for healthy foods can be a minefield. When we are in a rush we often don't have time to check the nutritional information and rely on the packaging to determine whether a product is healthy or not. have put together this blog which shows which foods are marketed as healthy, but can actually be high in sugar or fat.

How to avoid these foods - cook from scratch so you know exactly what has gone into your food, but if you are on the go make sure you read the packaging carefully!

Use the Eatwell Guide to help you get a balance of healthier and more sustainable food.
It shows how much of what you eat overall should come from each food group.

Sugar Shocker!

You may have read in the news this week about the amount of sugar in hot drinks from high street outlets.

We were really surprised (along with everyone else) that one hot fruit drink could contain up to 99g of sugar!! That's over three times the recommended maximum intake of added sugar!

For products with barcodes remember you can use your Change4Life Sugar Smart app to discover the sugar content. If you are buying a hot drink and would like to know just ask the person behind the counter, they should have this information.

Have you become Sugar Smart?

Change 4 Life have launched a great free app this month - Sugar Smart!

This app lets you scan barcodes of food and drink and shows the amount of sugar in sugar cubes.

This is great for when shopping to choose which foods have lowest sugar in, and lots of fun to scan your favourite foods and see if there are any hidden sugars in them!
